Canoeing On the Upper Wood River

In this case, the photos will definitely speak louder than any words I can write. But I’ll do my best.

7.5 miles of surprisingly technical canoeing thanks to lower water levels, leaving more rocks, tree fall, and other debris more exposed. The Scouts (and adults) got to hone their canoeing skills with lots of practice working together to execute tight turns and precision navigation. And when things didn’t quite go according to plan, may Scouts (and adults) got to sign off some requirements of the Canoeing Merit Badge. Like having to flip a canoe (intentionally or not) and recover.

Picture perfect weather (figuratively and literally, as you’ll see from the actual pictures) made for an absolutely fantastic day spent on the river.

Then at night, the Troop had the pleasure of being able to pitch camp adjacent to a horse field. This gave us the unique experience of a 5:00 AM wakeup call from curious horses wondering who or what was inside all these tents that had appeared.

The Troop also set a record attendance mark for both Scout and adult participation on this trip. At least in recent memory. With over 25 participants adventuring together, enjoying the outdoors, and reveling in the spirit of our Scouting community.

Videos

For the first time, some video! The goal was to convey the tranquility and beauty of our surroundings, so if you’re looking for intense action scenes and thrilling cliffhangers….this ain’t it. But if you’d like a taste of what we enjoyed, here you go.
