What would you do for a…..?
KLONDIKE!
For those unfamiliar, the Klondike is an annual event in celebration of somebody looking out at a New England Winter and thinking to themselves, “Hey. You know what would be fun? Scouts love sleds. They love doing stuff. Let’s put ‘em all together! ”
Troops from all over Rhode Island journeyed to Buck Hill in Pascoag, RI, to spend a day competing in a wide variety of events and activities. Troops brought sleds, with 8 Scouts to a sled. Scouts were required to put everything they’d need for the day on the sled (packs, water, food, etc.), and then spent the day maneuvering their sled around the camp site as they travelled between over 30 different activity stations.
What makes Klondike extra special is that Arrows of Light are allowed to participate. So it’s also a great opportunity for younger Cubs to start getting to know their future Troops.
Scouts competed in a wide variety of different events that included fire building, knot tying, obstacle courses, and attempting to successfully complete different cold weather rescue and emergency scenarios.
We had fantastic weather (especially compared to last year…brrrrrr….), fielded 3 sleds, everything ran like clockwork, and Troop 12 won a record number of ribbons this year. Congratulations Troop 12!
