It’s Good to Be Back Camping!
The weather forecast promised a beautiful weekend. Sunny with a chance of clouds. Mid to upper 50’s. Perfect Spring weather for our first overnight in some time, as pandemic restrictions start to gradually lift. And we were camping at Camp Yawgoog in Rockville, RI, which continues to be a fantastic place to Be Outside no matter the season.
But New England weather’s gotta’ New England.
Snow on Friday night.
Densely overcast and in the 30’s, with the sun breaking through and the weather turning pristine exactly after we’d packed up and started to leave.
That didn’t stop our intrepid Scouts however!
They put their engineering skills to the test as they built a monkey bridge using rope and gathered wood.
They worked on foundational skills like knot tying, fire building, and fire safety.
They played an intense hours long game of Manhunt.
And they got to enjoy some of our hallmark Troop 12 camp cuisine! Seasoned burgers for lunch (delicious!). Breaded chicken parm and pasta for dinner (also delicious!). And chocolate ‘dump cake’ cooked in a Dutch oven for desert (….can’t win them all).
The Scouts were energized by the activities, the food, and the camaraderie, and are already eager for our next adventure. Canoeing + Camping!
